Poem Inspired by the book of Ruth in the Bible
Poem Ruth
In the land of Moab, under God's sky so blue,
A tale of love and loyalty in the book of Ruth we view.
A famine in the land of Judah, a family had to flee,
Elimelech, his sons and his wife Naomi,
But tragedy struck and, took the men away,
Left Naomi and her daughters-in-law, in grief and disarray.
Naomi, filled with sorrow, told the girls to leave her side,
My daughters, seek your homes anew, let God be your guide.
But Ruth, oh steadfast Ruth, clung tight and refused to part,
Your God will be my God, she said, with all her tender heart.
She left her home, her people, for a land she did not know,
To Bethlehem with Naomi, did brave and faithful Ruth then go.
In the fields of Boaz, Ruth did find a place,
To gather grain and earn their keep, by God's abundant grace.
Boaz saw her virtue, her diligence he did admire,
In his heart, a flame was kindled, a slowly growing fire.
He became her kinsman redeemer, as was the custom then,
He took Ruth as his wife, in front of God and all his men.
From their line came David, the shepherd boy so brave,
And through his lineage, came Jesus Christ, who our sins would save.
